Meet Koa, aka -

THE ENDLING

Just your average former superstar with magic powers over reality making her way through a feudalist warrior-consumerist society with a talking crow and a huge f***ing wolf.

Koa was once a somebody.

She was Shogun Leiko's favourite. She was famous. She had her own Saturday morning cartoon.

And she could do things no one else could. Weird things. With reality.

Then it all fell to shit.

Something went wrong - she couldn't do the weird things anymore. Her dreams became frantic and invasive. She dreamt of other lives so vividly, she lost track of which one she truly belonged to. She fell out of favour with the Shogun and, realising that without her status she had nothing, she did what any other famous reality-bending warrior would do -

She stole a f**k load of money from a powerful War Baron called Niita & went on the run.

Now she is the subject of a televised hunt. The dreaded Ookami (of which she was once a treasured member) are chasing her down. And it's all in front of the 3Moons Sports IX camera drones and the bloodthirsty eyeballs of her former fans.

At least she is not alone. She has her best friends, Doran & War Dog. She has her belligerent motorcycle, Sleipnir & her sword, Agnar.

She will not run forever.

She is in deep doo-doo.

On the run from her former master, the dreaded Shogun Leiko, and relentlessly pursued by Leiko's 'Ookami' (a pack of sponsored people-hunters) she must find a way to safety - preferably in one piece.

With her strange abilities, so prized by the Shogun, lost or forgotten, she has only the sword on her back, her (un)trusty bike and a foul-mouthed talking crow called Doran for company.

Her beloved War Dog can't be far away, and he'll feast on those f***ing Ookami's bones if he gets a sniff.

But before that, Koa must contend with these strange dreams and the very real effect they have on the world around her.

“Have you ever been haunted by dreams of another life?

Dreams so real, you forget which life is the truth?

My dreams are poltergeists. They throw the shit in my head around, trying to scare me.”

- Koa

Do not f*** with WAR DOG.

Here's the thing about War Dog.

I don't know where he came from. I don't know why he chose me. I don't know why he decided that if anyone ever came close to putting me in a bad mood, he would eat them.

One day, he was there.

About a mile or so back, a black cloud on the plain.

He was catching me easily and I was sure I was going to be dinner.

I turned, drew Agnar from the scabbard on my back and prepared to die fighting.

But he just thought it was a game.

I gave him my best moves and he just bounced around like a puppy with his tongue lolling out and pure joy in those bone-white eyes.

Agnar didn't touch him once.

He didn't leave my side for six months after that. Then, over the years, he'd come and go - always seeming to arrive just when I needed him most.

THE OOKAMI

I was there you know.

I was there the day Niita set her wolves loose on my friend.

PIERO

“Leiko’s wolves are a nasty bunch of f***ers.

They are also the most famous f***ers in New Kyushu. They beat off sponsorship deals like I beat off ticks - everyone from Acid Cola to BrightThorn to, of-f***ing-course, 3Moons is throwing gold at these b*st*rds like confetti.

They don’t have fans, they have worshippers - actually referred to as ‘The Faithful’! And, being a tribalistic bunch, folks don’t much like them that don’t share their rapture for any chosen Ookami. If it wasn’t for the likes of Niita and the other War Barons kinda having a monopoly on war, there’d be.. y’know.. war.

Anyway, by far the worst, in my humble view, is Piero. Sure Yaeko is slick as f***, and Goliath is big and scary (not just a clever name). But Piero is f***ing crazy. And crazy trumps big or slick for fear points every f***ing time. Even Niita and maybe the Shogun herself have difficulty controlling her. She even stole two 3MoonsSports drones and turned them into weapons!

But, you see, Piero get’s something that makes her indispensable, And that’s ratings. Her kill record is good, but more than the numbers? It’s f***ing entertaining. If you like that kinda sick sh*t anyways.

Me? I don’t. And not just because this batsh*t looper with a Warpspasm-Class bike and two missile-hurling drones is after me and my friend. It’s because I’m not a sick f***. I’m just a simple crow.”

- Doran

YAEKO

“Sponsorships with 3Moons Fightwear, Acid Cola, BrightThorn Spears.

678,984 recorded worshippers.

Her own f**king Saturday morning cartoon.

Kids can even get Yaeko f**king lunchboxes.

And there she is - leaping from a clifftop, sailing through the air - unavoidable & violent death descending on me in a blur of orange rubber and glimmering steel.

I draw Agnar. It's time.”

Like Koa, Yaeko was famous enough to have her own tv show…

Unlike Koa’s show - a (relatively) wholesome animation - ‘Yaeko: Vice’ was cancelled after one season for being too violent.

As of now, only snippets exist. But rumours of the full opening credits being discovered in the 3Moons Entertainment archives abound…

Koa’s was a lot (ok - a bit) more wholesome.

There are more Ookami to come, like…

GOLIATH

AMAYA

And more to learn about Koa’s enemies

NIITA

LEIKO

And more to learn about the citizens that inhabit Koa’s world…

"Among the maelstrom of her dreams, a few emerge that speak of power.

They whisper it in sweet seduction, or hurl themselves in furious torrent, or brand her with their white-hot craving.

Oracle. Exile. Alpha. Endling.”

From 'Visions of The Endling' by Jiro the Monk.

“In all the million lives I dream of, the one that frightens me most is the one where I fall towards the future like a mirror crashing to the floor.”

From ‘The Young Days of The Oracle’ by Jiro the Monk.

"She is the Gateway -
Through her Creation sings.
All that is or could be
In a song to shake the stars."
